Modern computers are great for movie fans. You can backup your DVD’s or download movies from the internet to watch.
A single CD sized file can contain a movie with subtiles and multiple soundtracks! e.g. A Korean language soundtrack and an English one.
If all you want to do is play back movies on your PC then I recommend GOM Player.

Unfortunally for us Non Korean speakers you have to guess how to download the player and when you install it, the installer will be in Korean. But the very last option is to choose the language – Korean or English
Gom Player has an excellent interface, is very easy to use and has a host of hidden features for expert users. Do I like it ? Well, I use it daily as my main media player.
The other contender for a good general media player is VLC Media Player
An excellent, but ugly player that will play most videos without you having to install K-lite or similar Codec packs (below)
VLC (initially VideoLAN Client) is a highly portable multimedia player for various audio and video formats (MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX, mp3, ogg, …) as well as DVDs, VCDs, and various streaming protocols.
If you want to use Windows Media Player to watch your videos then you will have to install a codec pack
The one I am most familar with is K-Lite.
K-Lite Codec Pack is a collection of codecs and related tools. Codecs are required to encode and/or decode (play) audio and video. The K-Lite Codec Pack is designed as a user-friendly solution for playing all your movie files. With the K-Lite Codec Pack you should be able to play 99% of all the movies that you download from the internet.
There are three versions of the K-Lite Codec Pack: Basic, Standard and Full.
?¢‚Ǩ¬¢ K-Lite Codec Pack Basic contains only the most essential things. It contains everything you need to be able to play the most popular and widespread formats. It is small enough to fit on a single floppy. Also great for including on your movie CDs.
?¢‚Ǩ¬¢ K-Lite Codec Pack Standard contains everything you need to play all the commonly used formats. This package should be enough for the average user.
?¢‚Ǩ¬¢ K-Lite Codec Pack Full contains even more codecs. It also has encoding support for the various formats. This package is for power users and people who do their own encodings.
